Thanks Whee ! I appreciate your response; still no luck for me. That leaves me to think that my iPad may be the trouble. Perhaps there is an incompatibility issue ? I will try again using Chrome as my search engine ( I’m no computer genius, that’s for sure ! ).

Glad that we agree on classic Mini ! Cheers Pal ! Darren. PS- I’ve had no trouble quoting on other forums ( from my motorcycling days - over since I injured my back ).

Beaker/Kevin - the mini community is actually very small, I am probably only a few miles from you and have had kd’s phone number memorized since about 1990. Perhaps you would like to catch up to some local mini enthusiasts. Leave some contact info up and I’ll get back to you shortly.

How does a person quote something from a thread ? I have tried pressing the “quote” button beside a persons post, but it never shows up on the dialog box for me. Would someone please tell me how this function works please ? Cheers all ! Darren.
Quote button works for me on Windows..... It just pops up.

Agree on the Classic comment. Even a 2000 Mini is a classic design!

A road-trip to Ottawa will be a good warm up before you take the longer journey to the EMW 2019 National Meet in Colorado 2019.

Yes, it is a classic mini. I mean is '93 even really considered classic? Anyway, wife and I are flying to Montreal for the weekend with the full intent to purchase the car in 2 weeks, and assuming it checks out will have it hauled back to Alberta. Again assuming James is able to deliver. I should point out that it's not really a classic. Its been overhauled, heavily modified, and really looks nothing like a mini apart from the outer sheet metal. Let's just say it 'resembles' a classic mini. I think I have fallen pretty hard for it.

Congrats on the grey one btw. It looked like a nice car for sure. Drop a link for the tracking, I wouldn't mind tracking your car to determine if the driver will indeed show up on time in Montreal when he says he will. (I really am surprised I stumbled across this post, it was the first post in the forum I have looked at ever, and even more surprised we are using the same vendor for hauling)

Hello everyone! Debbie, you have had three very long distance runs in your Mini! With the spirit of adventure and my love of road trips, I will take that trip to Ottawa. That is a city that I haven’t ever been to, so it will work out perfect as a road trip to see our beautiful Capital city and to meet fellow Mini lovers and Brit car lovers ( I qualify for both ?? ) at the All British Car Day in Ottawa. When ( roughly) is that ? I just need a rough idea so that I can be sure I am familiar with my Mini and have put enough miles on it to know of it’s dependability. Thanks for the invite...I plan to be there. Beakr, I am indeed using James from Canadian Relocation Specialists. I actually got the upgrade because of the delays that had taken place, and the grief those delays had caused me. I was told by the vendor that he paid 400$ for the upgrade. Suits me fine :) , and I will be happy to tell you how things go. The only problem is I will be learning along with you. I have never used a car transport company before. One thing that it pretty well assures me, is that my car should be either on time ( March 3rd ) or a day ahead of schedule for James to meet his obligations to you. I spoke with Braden, the vendor of my Mini today, asking for a tracking # , but of course I had forgotten that today is a holiday. So I expect Braden to message me with a tracking # tomorrow after Canadian Relocation Services opens for buisness. Out of curiousity, are you sending a classic Mini ?

Best regards to you all ( yes, of course you too specialist ), Darren.

Out of curiosity are you using a vendor named James with Canadian Relocation Specialists to haul your grey mini out of Lethbridge? I may have requested an enclosed, maybe why you got the upgrade?? Anyways, he is scheduled to grab the '93 in Montreal on March 4th for a haul back to Calgary for me. I Would like to know your experience with this gentleman, I went through that U-Ship website and he accepted the bid. Let's see how this works. - Kevin

It is impossible to get insurance and plates for a car in another province and then try to drive it cross country.
It's only -35c in Calgary and plus 4 in Montreal with a ton of corrosive salt. Raining in the Maritimes.
You need snow tires to drive in Quebec in the Winter.
We have driven Minis cross country 3 times ; to Denver twice and to the All British field meet in Portland Oregon.
All in the Summer and in a fully prepared car. That been said my blue Mini with the half Mini trailer that was on the road from 1979 to 1989 blew an alternator in Kenora and we had to wait overnight at the Best Western for the Greyhound bus to arrive with our part from Winnipeg. So we booked a King size suite and settled in for the night.
We have also delivered a Jeep to Calgary at Christmas in 1991 and the roads got closed at Sault Ste Marie so once again an overnight stay at the Best Western was required.
Darren when your Mini is inspected, plated and insured on the road you can come to the All British Car Day in Ottawa and meet everyone...

See? There he goes again. Japanese spec Minis were built in the UK with a few upgrades specific to the Japanese market. Otherwise they are just like other Minis constructed at the same time, including their reliability and ability to leak oil.

You'll soon learn (if you haven't already) that the member currently known as 'specialist' (aka Robster, aka a few other names) is best to be ignored. He often spouts off non-facts, hot air, and although he's cleaned up his act (somewhat) since coming aboard to annoy most of us a year or two ago, you'd be well advised to take any advice he gives you with a cup of salt.

I wouldn't drive a Mini like that cross country, no way, no how. Maybe if I had owned it for a year and had a boot full of spare parts, and loads of wrenching experience, then MAYBE !

Good luck Darren. We're following along the saga of the missing Mini nearly every day now.

I do remember tracking mine across the ocean back in 2005. Exciting times, eh?!

Thanks for your good wishes specialist. The car was imported to Canada from Japan, and bought by a Mini dealer who is also a Canadian mechanic. So the car was bought in Canada. Now, the trouble with your suggestion of flying out and driving it back home to where I live, is that there ARE GUARANTEES THAT I WILL ENCOUNTER MANY STORMY ROADS. These roads will have road salt on them. Road salt eats the metal body for supper, then comes back for an evening snack. I know I shouldn’t assume, but I think you might be in a southern state that seldom ( if ever ) gets snow. It’s really messy sh*t to drive in, and sometimes you can get stuck overnight on the highway, with a storm roaring and snow plots are pulled off of the road. If it was summertime, I would give serious thought to driving it home. But it will be here on the 3rd of March. Darren PS- thanks to you too of course for your congratulations ! If I can post the progress I will. Cheers all !
