This close ratio five speed "A" Plus Rod-change helical cut teeth gearbox has been in production for nearly 20 years with phenomenal proven reliability. Suitable for 1275-1380cc(except extra boosted turbos) the strength of the helical cut gearbox is dependent on the torque capability of the original 2nd/3rd gears plus the final drive pinion and new 5th gear(i.e. 80-85 ft lbs of torque) This gearbox was successfully used with an 8 port head and 286 camshaft in Keith Dodd's car and a 1994 Longman fast road engine apart from many others. The gear case has extensive modifications plus 58 new linkage and gear modification parts. It is fitted with a closer ratio gear set than the standard 4 speed gearbox by virtue of a redesigned laygear and first motion shaft which produce the following ratios- 1st gear 2.583 2nd gear 1.644 3rd gear 1.250 4th gear 1-1 5th gear is technically an overdrive gear and produces a reduction of .865 on the helical teeth gearbox with a new 3.444 final drive it gives a 5th gear ratio of 3.037.
