Type2 vs. Type3 Slotted Rotors - What are the differences?

  • The Type 3 Slotted Rotors have a narrower air gap for greater thermal mass than the Type 2 Slotted Rotors. The greater thermal mass allows for more aggressive braking while maintaining caliper, pad & fluid temperatures in an acceptable range. The greater thermal mass also means the brake system is running cooler and a cooler brake system (properly designed) will get longer live from not only the discs, but the pads & fluid
  • The Type 3 Slot Pattern has an increased initial bite when the brakes are applied and a quicker pad release when the ABS kicks in or the driver’s foot is removed from the brake pedal. This means the vehicle will be accelerating quicker out of the corner helping the driver win more races.

Brembo GT-R BBK is the most advanced expression of all Brembo's experience in braking system design. The GT-R Kit is comprised of single block billet aluminum calipers with 4 piston radial attachment. They reduce the non suspended weight, improving the dynamics and vehicle performance.

The GT-R braking systems are designed to meet the needs of aggressive braking whether on the road or the track. GT-R is the most advanced expression of all Brembo's experience in braking system design. The GT-R Kit is comprised of single block billet aluminum calipers with 4 piston radial attachment. They reduce the non suspended weight, improving the dynamics and vehicle performance.

Two piece floating discs made from advanced high carbon alloy with corrosion resistant plating, mounted to the hat with floating D-bobbin with anti-rattle springs, combined with pads of different friction material. The pistons with stainless steel radiators allow a significant reduction of heat passage during extreme driving, reducing brake wear to a minimum.

In order to guarantee protection against corrosion and to provide high quality in the field, the GT-R calipers are nickel plated and have the Brembo logo CNC machined in red embossing.

NOTE: Before Ordering, check the Brake Caliper Template to make sure this kit fits under the wheels on your MINI. These calipers are very wide and require extra clearance behind the spokes. These brakes may require new wheels, or sometimes wheel spacers will do the job.

MINI offers Brembo Brakes on the JCW models, but the JCW brakes has smaller 335mm diameter 'solid' 1-piece rotors (not drilled or slotted) compared to this Grand Turismo Kit with 345mm x 28mm 'full floating" 2-piece rotors with Aluminum hats for less unsprung weight (for improved handling). The discs supplied in the kit feature an exclusive venting system that improves cooling capacity and increases resistance to cracking caused by thermal shock by over 40%. The holes or slots in the braking surface help dissipate heat and eliminate brake dust and gases.

Each Gran Turismo kit is integrate seamlessly with the MINI factory ABS and master cylinder for optimum brake balance. The calipers have sequential piston bores for even pad wear and OEM approved dust boots to protect inner pressure seals, brake fluid, and extend service life. The floating anti-rattle hardware is designed to prevents heat related stress, eliminates noise, and extends component life. The lightweight 2-piece disc assemblies reduce "unsprung" weight for improved vehicle dynamics.

Brembo does not offer a rear brake kit, however you can get close with similar rotors .

The FM1000 is a proprietary compound supplied by Ferodo to Brembo for great initial response, feel and modulation characteristics in a wide range of environments. The HP1000/FM1000 is the ideal dual purpose compound for street and light track use.

Type2 vs. Type3 Slotted Rotors - What are the differences?

  • The Type 3 Slotted Rotors have a narrower air gap for greater thermal mass than the Type 2 Slotted Rotors. The greater thermal mass allows for more aggressive braking while maintaining caliper, pad & fluid temperatures in an acceptable range. The greater thermal mass also means the brake system is running cooler and a cooler brake system (properly designed) will get longer live from not only the discs, but the pads & fluid
  • The Type 3 Slot Pattern has an increased initial bite when the brakes are applied and a quicker pad release when the ABS kicks in or the driver’s foot is removed from the brake pedal. This means the vehicle will be accelerating quicker out of the corner helping the driver win more races.
