This plate fits below the paper filters in the canister bowl of the canister type oil filter assemblies. It's a critical part as it keeps the tension on the filter pushed upward so the filter doesn't collapse on itself and block oil flow. Often they are missing because they accidentally get thrown out during routine oil changes.
