It's fun owning a mini. It talks to you. Tells you when it's not happy.

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to share some lessons learned from recent maintenance on my Mini.  First off, my Mini is a 1973 innocenti with a 1380 engine with HIF44 carburetor.  Please see below:

Installed an ITG foam air filter with ramstack specifically made by MED Engineering which is supposed to fit our beloved Mini.  It in fact does install on the carb but will not fit in the standard bulkhead without modification.  I have an adjustable upper engine steady and i still couldnt rock the engine far enough forward to accommodate.

Next, I finally decided to ditch the points on my 45D for a Pertronix LU-143A electronic conversion.  This requires complete removal of the points plate.  When I removed this, I could see the centrifugal so decided to grease them with multi-purpose grease.  NEVER GREASE THE WEIGHTS!!!  After I reinstalled everything my timing was bouncing back and forth when read at the flywheel and I thought I had a faulty Pertronix module.  I disassembled everything, removed the grease, and now timing is dead on with ZERO bounce.

I just wanted to share so nobody has to learn the hard way....
