To me, the logical method would be to have it stored centrally, (e.g. body control module) as the authority and have the other systems reference it. Logic would also suggest to have the MINI body control module in a location where it wouldn't get wet! All the more reason to own a classic Mini... the "body control module" gets in when he/she wants to drive the car!

Good question.

As far as I know, the odometer data is stored in three places:

  1. speedometer
  2. body control module (separate computer that handles locks, windows, lighting, instrument panel, etc etc)
  3. key fob
Not sure what happens when they disagree...

A question, probably for Ken, from my curiosity:

Does the digital odometer display store the mileage, or is it recorded somewhere in the depths of the computer systems?

Yea I understand that but a car without odometer is also not allowed .... if you can proof yours is broken, they will allow it. Btw I'm in Spain

Changing the odometer reading is prohibit by both federal and state laws, so it would be unlikely that you will find the procedure to do this...

Hi All,

I have an old Mini (One R50), few months back the display of total mileage (in my case KM) stopped working. This must work otherwise I will not pass inspection.

I thought, buy second hand, pop it in an all would be fixed. But no... after some digging it seems you need to reset the mileage to the actual mileage of your car cuz when you plug in the second hand, that number doesn't make any sense.

1) How do you reset the mileage on the cluster?

2) And how would I know what the exact mileage would be?

Can't find anything on the forum but I can not imagen I'm the only one with a broken odometer....any help would be highly appreciated.
