Maybe, just maybe check the wires during this to make sure no grounding out of the positive. Best, MSH

Thanks! I'll take it out and to a shop. That's probably easier than tracing the wiring anyway! Just never had this problem before on any other car.

I would remove the starter and have it tested. One symptom of them going bad is that they start drawing too much power and eventually blow the fuse or fusible link on the circuit.

I have a 93 Mini (1275CC) that has recently been blowing the starter/ignition fuse frequently. First time, I thought it was a fluke, so I just replaced it, then it blew again, then again. I finally admitted something was wrong and started trying to locate it. Testing voltage at the fuse, it's 12V, so no short between the ignition switch and fuse panel, which goes straight to the solenoid. I shorted across the fuse, and tried voltages there, but it wouldn't turn. I read up some more, and found that maybe the starter was jammed, so rocked the car around in 4th gear a bit to reposition and it fired right up, and has every time since (still shorted across the fuse, which is not a long term solution).

My question is: Do I need to keep tracing out wiring, or should I look for a new starter? It seems like the starter wiring circuit is pretty simple.
Thanks!
