Just curious if anyone that has actually done the rear beam axle from Minitec actually likes it? I absolutely hated it on the truck I built. If it wasn't on the pup when it got here, I would have seriously considered going back to a stock rear subby with a quality shock (protech, avo, etc) if it wouldn't have been so cost prohibitive. I did not like the fitment, and b.s with having to make up a lot of the components to actually make it work.. such as the ebrake cables. Coilovers severely limited wheel selection as well that would have fit easy peasy on a coned and shocked car. Just my .02.

Swapping to that coilover setup is the subframe equivalent of replacing iron brake drums with minifin brake drums.

And, I've never found the aluminum drums easy to bend at all! What the hell did you do to bend them??


PS:  and somewhat related to the bending brake drum question... When you eventually go to replace your rear subframe with that beam setup, please Please PLEASE set up a video camera when you go to remove the subframe bolts that pass through the trunions and into the heelboard. And make sure you get the audio! Post the link to the footage here when you're done.  Thanks.

The coilovers have little brackets that bolt in and distribute the load a little. I have read people run this with no issues,and others worry. Have there been many or any cases with these kits causing issues? I understand the load on coilovers as a buddys racecar came down from a wheelie and blew the top of bis shock tower out before,but i figured a mini is soo light it wouldnt be much of an issue.

The rear upper shock mounts are not made to support using a coilover setup. They are just not built with thick enough metal.

I guess i was more or less curious if any of you guys had issues with them. They sure do bend easy!

I dont even know anyone with a Mini. I guess i might as well pull my rear frame down while im at it and replace it with my coilover suspension.

The rear brakes really do little breaking so being aluminum is not a problem. It is a little less weight for the suspension to deal with. Other than for looks they don't do much for a basic street mini. But they do have good bragging rights to your friends. Bet none of them have fined rear brakes.

To me it doesnt make sense to have aluminum drums,but my car came with them so i left them. The one was stuck on and i bent it a little trying to get it off. Im currently in the middle of replacing everything brake related in the back of my car and was wondering what you guys think of them. Should i just order standard 1" spaced drums? Just curious to why theyd make them out of aluminum. I understand it cools well,but i dont feel like it would work well lol
