Driving style definitely has an impact on clutch life.
The hills and congestion in SF may be a contributing factor...

Only 37K miles and it already needs a new clutch? I would suspect it to be the master/slave cylinder moreso than needing an actual physical clutch plate replacement, unless of course that hydraulic system has been failing for some time and someone's been driving with their foot on the clutch pedal 1/3 depressed for many of those miles...

Good evening-
I’m looking for some advice about replacing my clutch. I have a 2007 Mini S manual. My car has 37000 miles on it because it’s not driven that often. Mostly just around San Francisco. I make trips to southern CA 1 or 2 times a year. I am the second owner, clean title. Car is in good condition, a few small dents here & there from parking on the streets. It has leather interior. The sunroof doesn’t work currently.
My clutch went out. I have a great mechanic that I trust. He’s told me that with parts & labor I’m looking at around $3000 or so for the repair. I’m trying to decide if the repair is worth it or should I cut my losses & take a small cash payout (~1200). I’d have to borrow the $3000 from a friend. Then, my thought was, I’d sell it, pay her back & I’d still only be left with maybe $1500 anyway.
I have loved this car. I had another Mini prior to this one but it might be time for something else....I hate to say that.
Any advice? I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
