The grille you pictured looks correct for your Morris.
If you already have some go fast bits/wheels etc., and not worried about originality, I think the Morris Cooper grilles look far sportier.  Yours is actually pretty hard to find.

Not really...  I think you're looking at a grille that belongs to the "SuperDeluxe" model.  It was similar to the standard 850 version with some vertical slats added...

As a Deluxe yours would not have had the extra embellishment... (which is good because such grilles are rare and $$$$$

IMHO??? There are enough ersatz Ss about.  A "special" 850 is something much more uncommon.. back in the day they're known as Q cars ... after a WWII deception.

Cheers, Ian

PS I'm undecided as to whether my car is an S with a Traveller body... or a Traveller with an S heart ...

I’d say mount one and keep the other as a spare

I think pick whichever you like. I think all the early grills look nice.

If I remember correctly, the early Morris 850 had that type of grill painted white. Then the later cars came with the grill in chrome. The Coopers were the slat type.

Is the one you have the one you attached the photo of.. ?

If so, it is the correct item for your car.  The one you describe sounds like a Cooper grille.

Cheers, Ian

Any of the grill types can be modified for the quick release. On some types you may want to make nylon spacers so as to not bend or distort the slats.

Looks like my recently purchased 1961 Morris Mini has an aftermarket grille.  Can I just purchase a proper grill with slats that extend to the edges of the opening and still retain the quick-release setup?    Thanks.
