The only number I had was the body number on the slam panel.  vin on rad cowl was missing and not stamped anywhere.  BMH was able to find my cars vin, engine #, date of birth ( 04 July 62 ), options, shipping date etc. with me supplying only the body number, proof of ownership and pictures.  Very happy.  I then ordered a proper vin plate.

A "Heritage Certificate"  is an extract from the (handwritten) ledgers that BMC (and some other UK motoring companies) used to record the details of each car they built.

As long as you have the chassis/car number the archivist will be able to provide a suitable certificate (unless you are unlucky as described in the posts above) which may (depending on the age of your vehicle (BMC got sloppy with records beyond the late 60s)) give you the build date of your car, the specific model and accessories fitted, its original colour(s) body no, engine no, , maybe even the original dealer to which it was dispatched..  

Go to the website above where the process and costs are set out.

#Ian, looks like if my Mini fell between the years 1959-1969 and 1977-1981 I'd be in luck. According to the web page these would be the years they can get certificates for. With that said, I'll still make contact once they re-open Dec 4th and see if maybe (fingers crossed) they may be able to find my particular year.

Off the top of my head contact bill Cox of Monte Carlo minis in SC or somewhere down there.  He has it next to his computer lol. All you need is the vin number they will supply the Engine number, body number, specifications and color interior exterior, build date, destinations and details of equipment

I don't want to come off as NEEDY, but I'd like details,
such as a point of contact, e-mail, phone number.
Having any such documentation sounds like a good thing.
My engine number would not be available anymore, as that has been changed.
Will that matter?

The heritage certificate is like the birth certificate of your car. Basically you need the Vin number but other numbers such as the engine number also help. And it tells you the car’s options, paint that sort of stuff.  I don’t know how much they are now I’ve had mine since the 1990s.

This is not the first time I have seen "Hertage Certificate" in this forum. Call me what you will, but what exactly is a Heritage Certificate, and what documentation is needed to aquire one?

That's unfortunate for you.

Ledger number 57 is missing.  It covered the production from the last couple of weeks of August 1964.

Sad news about my '64 Mini, but I suppose this gives me free reign to rebuild the vehicle any way I please.
