A friend taught me to run a couple wraps of .020" safety wire through the roll pin and around the coupler.  Belt and braces, ya know.

Spitz,
Thanks for the feedback.  Turns out your 100% correct. The apparent difference in hole size is an optical illusion. The roll pin seems to fit just about right.  Does this view of the diff cover still give you pause?  Are you referring to the "scar" on the bolt column?

That does look a little sloppy....but maybe just at the edges.  If your pin was tight.......?

This could also be worn....which could cause some slop

Link to shifter shaft
Sorry,  struggled to get a photo uploaded from my phone, and the laptop apparently.
Hope this helps clear it up.

I'd like to think I could drilling and ream out the shaft in place, but i fear i'll just be kicking off a mess.  No drill is going to start into that hole, even if it was round.

You might try to put the roll pin back in and screw a thin shaft screw into the hole of the roll pin. Careful not to break the head off. You just need a little bit of tension. Hard to find these roll pins.

I’m sorry I’m not following. I believe I still have a gear selector but if you can post a picture I would know.

Ok, I get it now. I was thinking about the wrong end.

There is not much shaft there to try to drill out larger then sleeve it back down. Plus you have to worry about the sleeve coming loose when driving the pin in. If you can get a larger roll pin I think it would be best to open the coupler and shaft to the lager size pin.

Could you use this kit made for that very reason? https://www.minimania.com/part/MSSK050/Classic-Austin-Mini-Rod-Change-Anti-Oil-Leak-And-Seal-Kit

Nathan’s year selectorHey Folks,
I’m chasing an oil leak and am questioning the transmission gear selector rod seal / sleeve. I pushed the roll pin out easy enough after a liberal dose of penetrant. However, I’m questioning the size of the hole through the shaft. Looks to be wollowed out? Surprising for 44k km. Should I try to sleeve it? It’s always been a little sloppy...
thanks,
