Car does unlock with battery so seems it's the transmitter in the keyfob I guess?  Will try again and see if the spare does the trick.

Yes, the keys are sealed unless you have the comfort option.

Even if sealed, owners have successfully replaced the battery in the key fob - we don't have details but is has been done.

Found replacement key. So car unlocked and all worked until the last turn and no crank.

Tried the spare and started.

So looks like the immobiliser In the key or battery in the key.  Are they sealed units as I  think on the r52 the batteries charge In the ignition....

Should be fairly easy to check for 12V at the starter when the key is in 'start' position.

It is possible the RFID in the key may have failed but that would be unusual to happen suddenly... Do you have another key you can try?

You can try the 'key initialization' procedure here.

Many thanks for coming back. The car is automatic. I had tried starting in neutral and park but this was not the fix. Must be starter motor sticking I guess OR immobiliser?

If the MINI has a manual transmission, check the clutch switch to see if it is functioning correctly.

The clutch switch tells the computer that the clutch is depressed and to allow the engine start.

Hope could someone help.

Car has been perfect.  Had a new battery about 6 months ago and always started.

This morning my father inlaw took the car down the road came back and all good. Forgot to put the handbrake on but it's an auto.

I got in and lights all came on etc.  But when turning the key there is now no click or cranking at all from the last key position.

The radio, wipers, etc all work but no crank.

Is this the ignition switch gone?  Just not sure what it could be..... Any help would be amazing!
