Put the nut back onto the spindle reversed if you can. you may have to chase the threads. Screw the nut to match the end of the spindle end , then you have more to hammer rather than the crushing the spindle threads. You will more than likely be buying a CV joint kit and bearings. My experience is water got in between the race bearings and spindle surface and froze them together. You may need a 2lb hand sledge.

Help!   I've been replacing all my rubber cones, suspension parts, and adding adjustable tie rods, hi-los, etc.  I'm on the last wheel (front, driver's side) and the whole CV shaft pulled off rather than the hub (after disconnecting the ball joints and steering rod joint).   I tried banging it out and just proceeded to damage the threads on the CV shaft.   The bearings spin fine but I can feel a tiny bit of a play (minor clicking) when I push the shaft up and down.  Is that normal when the bearings aren't loaded?

So - What do I do now?

I could:
1)  Buy or rent a gear puller and see if I can press off the shaft.  Either clean up the threads or buy a new CV shaft.  I need to order CV boots anyways and I assume I'm going to need new wheel bearings if this is stuck on.  I'm pretty certain I replaced the bearings back when I first bought the car.

2) Clean up the threads on the shaft, replace the CV boots from the other end of the CV shaft and reassemble it.  As long as the minor play in the bearings is fine (I've only felt that when it was not loaded), then this approach might work.

3) Buy a new hub assembly and trash all this except the CV joints and draftshaft.

Other ideas?
