Well, it is really a bit structural while you're mobile.
There's a damn good reason you need brace bars from the bulkhead to the front subframe mount when doing a flip front...

I had the teardrops rot out and fail on Betty, and the difference once the front of the 'frame was tied into the car again was palpable.

Having said that, while stationary and level, you can normally pull the bolt out and replace it easily - ironically jacking the car up forces the 'frame up and snags the bolt.

You could be right... we only ever had the MkI style twin bolt subframe.... which is as rigid as you would ever want.

Teardrops and rubber mounts are just not part of my world.

Cheers, Ian

When you remove the existing bolt, you may have shims or washers between the subframe and car nose. Make sure you keep them in place. If you remove them, it will change the shape of the wing and the tire may rub if you have minimal clearance with the steering hard left.

i'm going to install a tow hook on the front left side.
can I remove/replace the one subframe bolt without a jack or should I support the body and subframe while pulling the bolt?
thanks
