Rust bubbles, poorly patched floors, no interior to speak of and other issues like window channels, etc? I think $18.5 is way off. I see the main selling point is the big engine. That said, I think you're about right at $10k or maybe slightly less. Anyway, I'd insure it for more because how much would it cost to replace a MK1 shell in the future? Good luck!

998 minis are asking 10-12k now. I have an agreed value policy of 15k and my 1975 mini with a 1275. Will probably up it at next renewal. 

Yeah,  I understand it would require an appraiser to get an "official" value, but as Jedduh01 notes, unless I made significant changes, the car probably only appeals to a limited number of enthusiasts.

Jedduh01, do you really think it's worth $18,500?  That seems pretty high to me. My "gut" instinct says "$10 - $12k, but I could be under valuing.

Any other input from the wise ones on this forum?

For insurance purposes you might need an official appraisal by a legitimate appraiser rather than some personal opinions.

 Ask yourself.. what is the $$ amount you would be OK receiving from a total loss payment ?  That would be your own value.   sentimental value plays into this too.

 What its worth is determined by putting it up for sale as you mention.... Sure you could AsK a big number but that just trying to sell.   Will it sell at that number?  Thats not what its worth thats trying to capture a big value

 I will say the Best selling higher value cars go at acutions like Bring a Trailer and are usually very original and very complete.  Your car has alot of persional items that would perk the interest of fewer parties or only those interested in those race /rally mods... Thats not a bad thing. just changes whom may be interested in your car.

Hi ... it's been a few years since I've posted to the forum, but I still have my trusty Mini and need some advice.

I'm not looking to sell, but I'd like to get a sense of what my '62 is actually worth these days to ensure I'm insuring it properly and to also help with some future planning.  I realize prices can fluctuate widely, but I'd be grateful for any and all input.  To be clear, I'm looking for a realistic price ... in other words what the car would probably sell for if I was patient and willing to wait 6 - 12 months for the right buyer.  (Not a "desperation death offer" price, but also not an inflated price that's unlikely to ever materialize.)

Key details.

- VIN shows it is a 1962 Morris Super Deluxe (original left hand drive).  I don't have a heritage certificate (could get one if it really mattered).

 

- The previous owner converted the car into a “Cooper S” look and set it up for autocross back in 2000.  Engine is a MiniMania built 1292 with aluminum head and all the go fast goodies. Also has 4 pot calipers in front and adjustable shocks/suspension all around, plus twin tanks and remote shifter.  Currently running 100+ ten inch wheels and nearly new Yoko 008’s. 

 

- The shell is original, but floors have been replaced with non-standard sheet metal. It looks good from 10 feet, but there is some rust along the sills and a dent in the cowl + a crack in the paint on the roof.  Rest of the body is good. No rust in gutters, etc. In essence, it’s fine to drive as-is, but would need a full floor to address the rust/non-standard metal and return to original look.  Original glass is fine, but sliding window seals are shot and need to be replaced.

 

- Original interior was removed,  cage was added along with SFI spec padding (but could be eliminated), and the car currently has cheap old-school buckets and a black carpet and back seat.  Also has a nice wooden dash and an older Moto-Lita steering wheel.

 

In essence, it’s a great driver/autocross car at the moment, and could be an outstanding track car if you added better seats.

 

Thanks again for any feedback on a fair valuation for the car.   Again, I realize the only way to know for sure is to actually list and sell the car, but I’m grateful for any help you can offer.
