I to have the problem of being not only a newbie to mini but a newbie to the BMW realm since my time at euro Mtr cars, I used to work on mid 80’s BMWs and I hated it (mostly BMW Fitz Snickety owners)! I will seek another forum for the later than Y2K “mini” (BMW thru and thru, but BMW won’t even talk to you, because it’za Mini Cooper)

Have you tried local service shops that specialize with BMWs? They should be able to work with the Valvetronics / VANOS on the MINI to replace the cam...

Welcome Jono.
As Spank says, we seem to be predominantly, though not entirely classic Mini oriented.
Our host (in California) caters to both pre- and post- 2000 Minis/MINIS. One of the staff regularly contributes to new MINI questions, though he does take weekends off. Meantime, other new MINI owners may chime in.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry you are experiencing difficulties getting straight answers to your questions from your local mechanics. I feel it important to inform you that this forum here, while certainly one that has posters from the world over, is predominantly one frequented by North American participants who show a strong bias towards 1959-2000 Austin, Morris, Leyland, and Rover A-series powered Mini and Mini Cooper cars.
Not saying that you won't find the answer to your question by posting here, but I am saying that you should continue to seek your answers in other forums and perhaps some that are frequented by enthusiasts who are more familiar with 2000 and newer MINI and MINI Cooper cars.

HI All, I have a R56 2010 Mini Clubman JCW. Pepper white with Piano black roof with carbon fibres bits, and special order tan baseball leather interior. I bought it new and have driven it 175,000kms. I have serviced it and cared for it. I have had 3 Minis and love this car. HOWEVER the timing chain snapped and destroyed the top end, and with quotes of $6k plus I sourced another identical motor for $3k and had the motor swapped over. The replacement motor has just 76,000kms on it BUT it requires a replacement camshaft. I have tried a number of mechanics but none show the confidence to tell me what the job involves. I don't want to go to Mini Garage as they will charge huge $$$.
I am on the northern beaches 2107 in Sydney and would love any recommendations on what I should do and where to take the car.
Thanks so much for reading my post.
Cheers
