maybe it should include:

"if you choose to accept this, the car will self-destruct on the 101st attempt. there will be no evidence remaining that you ever owned or had title to the car"

: )

OK, so it is a "feature" that the manufacturer realizes is detrimental to the car??!!

A handbrake does this for drivers who don't have the reflexes to move their right foot from brake to gas while simultaneously releasing the clutch. Easier on an automatic where your left foot has nothing to do.

It seems only the 3rd generation F-series MINI with the sport automatic transmission has the launch control feature:

  • turn off Traction Control
  • put car in Sport Mode
  • move shifter to left to manual shift
  • fully press brakes
  • floor gas pedal
  • wait for a checkered flag on your tach
  • let go of brake and your off!

Well that's a bit of a let down, this went from a red button LAUNCH CONTROL, to incline assist.

So, what is this system supposed to do - hold the brakes on until you wind the engine up? Sounds like good old-fashioned line-lock - a valve on the brake line to hold the front brakes on while you revved up the engine and got the back drive wheels spinning. If your modern MINI has an auto transmission or clutchless shifting, couldn't you just use your other foot?

My 2013 MINI does.    I don't know if it is stock on all models, or if mine came with some sort of package.   The amount of time that the brakes are on is about 3 seconds or so.   But it helps!

Yes, if you press the red button, you have better have your seatbelt on.
