Hi all,

I have a 2019 Mini Cooper S 2D HT that I adore. I am on year 2 of my 3 year lease and I am having a problem. My car when in sport mode (I rarely drive in any other mode) is occasionally having a S3 to S2 downshifting problem. The car refuses to downshift as I am slowing down and results in the brakes being unable to adequately stop the car. The car jerks and the engine revs as I fight the car to stop. This has happened 3x in the last 2 or so months but this weekend it happened and it was much more serious. I was  driving down the road and was approaching my house to turn left. The car was slowing and in S3 when the episode happened again. This time I could not stop and had my food squarely on the floor braking hard. I tried moving the gear shift into D, that did not help the problem. I ended up driving another 100 feet praying for a halt. Lucky for me nobody hit me from behind and I didn't hit anyone in front. When I stopped, it would not move in Drive. I turned off the car, restarted and all was back to normal.

I had the car towed to my dealership. It has 14k miles. Mini says nothing is wrong with the car, they are unable to reproduce the problem I reproduced now for the 4th time. Each time it has happened it has gotten worse, and the amount of time between episodes has shortened. Mini called Mini Tech and reported the problem in which they were told there are NO REPORTED instances of this happening. This leaves me feeling that I am about to have an accident. What is worse, I am due to drive from NY to AZ and back next week in this car. My confidence is shot.

Anyone have any ideas. This I know. I didn't accidentally shift into M. I was in S3 not M3. Each time this has happened I believe I was going from S3 to S2. Any help would be appreciated. I am at a loss.
