Consider the 123 Electronic Ignition system (our host has it). Very well designed and manufactured, not a conversion. You select and advance curve (one of many) that best suits your engine. Installation is a breeze - it even contains a built-in timing light to set it to top-dead-centre with the engine off. Once you clamp it down and start the car, the system provides zero advance until the engine reaches 500rpm, whereupon it activates the set curve. This feature makes cold starting really easy - also useful when your engine is having starting problems. I haven't touched mine in years.

Yes, electronic ignition, while keeping the points assembly with you should it fail. This is more important in boating than driving a car, I carry no spare, but have road aid.

US
The Distributor Doctor out of the UK sells excellent ignition components.  Takes a little longer to get them but worth the wait.

Yea, all the local auto stores (Autozone, O'Reillys, Advance Auto Parts) carry points but they're all plastic.

the Quikafit type with the plastic rubbing block could melt.  The good points were the Cooper S/ Lotus Cortina points, Lucas 54413568.  The host website does not find this p/n,  Google finds a number of sources.

Howdy,

For US owners of classic Mini's, have you found a local source for points (blue w/ pin)?  I can order it online, but with COVID19, shipping is taking a little longer.
