I have removed paint from solenoid bracket and will be painting space cylinder.
I will be sure to use a star washer when attaching the solenoid to the bracket.

the rubber button has deteriorate over time.  Any tips on replacing or tightening the fit.
currently I wrapped electrical tape around metal shaft under the rubber button.

use a star washer under the electrical connections to bite in and provide good grounding.

Never paid any attention to this area of the Mk1 forum!
I was mostly in Technical Talk or General Chat.
I would use Bring A Trailer to view pictures of mostly original Cooper S cars.

I will spend this weekend painting my slave cylinder and viewing Our Cars and Projects.
I already removed the black paint from the solenoid bracket.

I may post my car on Our Cars and Projects and get feedback on what I have done so far.

thanks for the info.

The slave cylinder is painted engine color, starter solenoid and bracket looks to be zinc plated or silver color. Hunting through MK1 forum “Our cars and projects” will get you some photos.

I actually have 2 copies of his book!  The reason for this post is I could find any references to these
two parts.

if you would be so kind as to point me to the page I missed I would appreciate it.
thanks in advance.

Thanks Doug for the info re: the solenoid bracket/plate.

I meant to inquire about the clutch slave cylinder and not the clutch master cylinder.
so.  What color is the clutch slave cylinder?

If you are talking about the small metal plate that bolts to the clutch cover... it may have just been tin or zinc plated.  The solenoid requires its mounting foot to have a good ground connection so paint could be a problem.  If you paint the plate, you will need to scrape a little paint off around the plate's mounting holes or run a dedicated ground wire from the solenoid's foot to the clutch cover or engine block.

I think the clutch and brake master cylinders would have been a grey metal plating.  I do not think the golden cadmium color of the reproductions is anywhere near correct.
