I completely fill the hole with thick grease - like Ian says, the the area gets covered in grime, but the grease forms a pretty effective seal in my experience to prevent that crap getting down to the ball.

I would beg to differ... and would NOT use a grease on the end of the lever.  Too much dust and other stuff floating around to mix up an excellent grinding paste..

Squirt graphie powder into the gaps with a puffer bottle...

Cheers, Ian

I am sure everyone will have their own preferred lube for the throw out lever.  I think I used a moly filled grease as they are generally considered good for high pressure contact.  That's what is used in most CV joints.

In the process of replacing clutch throw out bearing, plunger and clutch lever.  What would be the best lubrication where the ball end of the lever fits into the plunger?  Grease?  Dry lube like graphite?
