A 2014 R60 Cooper S ALL4 Countryman is not that old so design-wise, so it is better than the early 1st generation MINIs. However with 76k miles and no info on how the car was maintained or driven, things may crop up needing attention.
If you do your own repairs on cars, you may be okay with just buying parts. If not, budget for yearly maintenance and repairs.

I'd suggest there's no such thing as a cheap MINI Cooper. The "modern" ones are made by BMW and you will pay BMW rates for parts and labour when something goes wrong (and it will). If the sale price is "cheap" then I'd be even more concerned about impending repairs. "Classic" Minis are collector/hobby cars and haven't been made in 20 years. Classic Coopers (real ones) are rare. The upside on the classic Minis is that they are far cheaper to buy parts. The down side is that most garages won't touch them, so you do repairs yourself.
Your wife's first car should be something that is durable like a Honda or Toyota. They are bullet-proof compared to BMW MINIs.
