Guys, I am so sorry.  I completely forgot to come back here and report my progress!  I was able to purchase an in tact steering wheel complete with both paddle shifters from a salvage yard. I removed the right paddle shifter from the salvaged steering wheel and replaced the broken one on my Mini. Was surprisingly easy!  Most difficult part was putting all of the wires back in the wheel under the airbag bracket.

It can probably be disabled via software, but that would require MINI service / diagnostic system....

Unplugging the harness to the paddles may trigger a error light on the dash, but it may be worth a try. 

Make sure you don't turn on the ignition with the airbag disconnected! (you will trigger an airbag light and a trip to the dealer to reset it).

First time Mini owner here. Just picked up a used 2005 Mini Cooper S Automatic with paddle shifters.  The right shifter is lose, meaning that it won't stay in the middle position, instead it tends to flop toward the dash.  Wouldn't be an issue (I really don't use these) except it seems any slight bump and suddenly I'm in manual mode and it likes to down-shift at the wrong time.

New right paddle is approximately $250 online, but was hoping to just "deactivate" the paddles shifters if at all possible.  Cna this be done without removing the airbag and unplugging/removing the paddle? I'm not above doing this, was just wondering if there was a way to disable them.

Looked online for a video on how to remove or replace a paddle but nothing comes up.  

Any and all advice will be appreciated.
