Always used 91, at a large array of stations...

I've filled up at countless stations over the course of the nearly 2 years of ownership of the car, and its always had this issue as far as I know.

I've eliminated the fuel quality as a problem, and it doesn't seem to be ignition either.

I read that the EGR valve can cause problems like I'm experiencing, so I'm going to prop the car up on jackstands and check out everything I can think that may be broken and causing an issue.

I'm quite positive the car is experiencing detonation, as it fits the description too well to be something else. Or I could be totally wrong. I got a video, but i still need to find if you can hear it well enough.

thanks for the tip!
Let us know if this works!
I changed back to the original coilpack, leads and sparkplugs, (as well as trying different combinations of aftermarket and stock to see if I could isolate the issue, but there was no change. I'm leaving in the stock ignition system to see if with a bit of time the engine adjusts, but I doubt it will. My suspicion is the fuel system now, unless my stock ignition system Is "broken" to. I saw somewhere that bigger jcw injectors helped someone out... I can't find where I saw that though... but I figure that if thousands of other 15% pulley and CAI users don't have to change their injectors to get rid of this problem, then why do I even have it in the first place? Video of the sound is hard to get, as it seems that going 100km/h on the highway and giving it throttle is when its loudest, and wind noise makes it a little difficult. I'll try and get a video anyways.

A wild guess but worth eliminating.
Ill give that a shot, thanks for the suggestion.

Not sure what a 'crackling' sound is, and can't imagine what could be causing the sound...

Sound is very subjective so it's difficult to accurately know what you are hearing....

Hello to all the wise folks who may be able to shed some light to my question.

Why is there a “crackling” sound coming from the intake when the car is under heavy acceleration?

The sound is audible from inside the cabin and only happens when you really get on the gas. It isn’t completely consistent, as it is only on for a bit during the mid-high rev range (but isn’t always consistent in this range either) nor does it happen every time I do a pull

The sound could only be described as crackling, but its not apparent where the sound is coming from, because it’s only audible when I’m accelerating hard.

It doesn’t seem to impede performance, nor did it just start abruptly. I remember it happening pretty much ever since I got the car, but wasn't very noticeable until I installed a cold air intake.

Thanks -Kaelan Frost
