That was an old post.I think the OP brought the post up from the dead. My Vtec car was WAY quieter than the 998/1275 when i built it. Then i added a turbo and it was WAY quieter. Then i changed the exhaust and it got a tad louder but still very nice. Doesnt sound like a honda.

A stock 95 civic is very quiet. Its not the engine, its the exhaust people choose...

I have a D16Z6 in mine and it's a lot quieter that the 998 or 1275, especially highway cruising in 5th gear.. mind you I am only 130hp... but more than enough for a street driven Mini in my opinion..

I have a Turbo D16z6 FWD with a 3.72 final drive an d it was perfect IMO for all around and using 1st gear. 10" wheels with 165/70s. That setup really made the car nice to drive. 10" FTW lol

Member here named irishdude (I think) is now in LA area, he had a couple z-cars I believe, Rode in his K-Series - 6 spd, said 1st gear was way too low, fun but couldn't get power to the ground. I thought his 165x13's may have been part of the issue, Dont know if better final drive is available for K-Series yet, B-Series seems like a better choice.

I'm pretty sure willie had the Z-cars rear end; when I saw it it was definitely the z-cars stuff that I'm familiar with.

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

Not a bike engine per se, but our lemons car has 1/2 a bike engine in it... BMW K1100 16valve twin cam. Running the Micro squirt engine management. We are all new to programming ECU's and while it goes pretty good out on the track (we are currently chasing a dead spot around 3000 rpms that makes the car fall on it's face when exiting a corner...) I drove it to work a couple times and then drove it over to Port Angeles for a race weekend and it was TERRIBLE on the street! Couldn't pull away from a light unless it was at 3000+ and then would do a big burnout, not what you want when you are trying to be inconspicuous...

Worked on the tune a bunch more and the car is now very streetable, will pull from a light and drive very sedately.

Not sure the point of all that rambling other than the need to tell someone we figured out some ECU stuff.

Still has a bit of a dead spot when coming off/going back on throttle though...

Ahh, thanks, Alex. I jumped to conclusions about being bike-engined.

There's a guy in LA area who did a rear engine K series conversion and thanks to Alex's reminder I do seem to recall it was a Zcars.

I'll crawl back under my rock/bridge.

Not loud at all.

Brians car is unbelievably civilised, and I'd bet a slab of beer that it is quieter than yours*.
