Even out host carries a golf cart tire for sale. He does caution buyers about them just as I have but they are listed here...  //www.minimania.com/web/Item/TIRE20/InvDetail.cfm   The ones that I have found are vastly superior to these in both tread design and speed rating. I'm not saying to go get yourself a set necessarly but don't knock it till you try it.

Scott check with Jason Neuman (jaynu) as he had a set on a van years ago which were probably not dot rated back then and now has a set on a wagon (in the for sale section) with a single cam vtec in it he may be able to give an informed opinion on how they handle.

Alex i would like to see the 850 Mini that could do sustained speeds of 81 mph, get real you would be hard pressed to get those sustained speeds from a 998 Mini.

You are correct, just 'cause I would not risk me or my car you can and seem to weigh the risk .  Did not mean to be negative

I am not asking anyone to ride with me, at least until the safety factor has been figured out and I wouldn't ask you anyway Duane or any others that feel that this is not their cup of tea. As for what I am doing, it is like going back to the ply tires of yesteryear. The speed rating was down, as well as max weight, handled ok if you knew how to really drive on them and we did it anyway. The real problem here is how the tire companies have abandoned certain sized tires and left enthusiasts stranded with  the sizes that are left. Leaving us to be experimental. I used to be a pilot. Flew everything I could get my hands on. That included experimental aircraft. That is a term used to describe an airplane made by someone other than a manufacturer. Just because it is made by someone else doesn't mean that it isn't a good plane. The same here, without experimentation where would the mini be. Look at all of the countless things that people have tried with the mini. Let's see, twin engines, stretching it, shortening it, chopping it down (sprint, Maguire), V-Tec conversions and a whole host of others. Some of them we agree with and others we don't. Some of them improve the breed and others don't. You may not want to chop down your car or add a V-Tec to your car either. If you don't push the envelope you get nowhere. I never said these were safe, I said that they should be tested as a possible alternative and it was up to that person wanting to use these to figure out the safety of them. As for the tire it has the highest speed rating of all golf cart tires and might be worth looking at. I would probably run the same risks of running a racing tire on the street (not street legal). A lot of mini guys that love the twisties do it and don't run into problems. At least these are DOT labeled and to this date are the closest thing to a decently wide tire that "might" work if your so inclined. If not, your opinion is just that, your opinion. You are entitled to it. Why is the mini culture filled with so much negativity?  Where would the mini be today without the efforts of people trying new things?

x 2,  may look nice in the pics, but each time you go over 60 you will worry, and is that what you got your mini for?  to worry if you'll prang it?

It isn't to bad, for me anyway. The front (if you see my avatar) is a steel flip front. It needs to go on a diet anyway so I am just about saved up for one of BOBB's Carbon fronts (6 bs).The only other part to over come on the front is the sail panels. Shouldn't be too difficult. The backs are mostly intact. I just need to find the right flares. If not I'll just have the wholes welded up.Thanks I do like the look. What we need is for someone to make a REAL 10 inch performane tire. A Hoosier with tread life, that is true DOT, 205 wide and is suited best for a 6 inch wide wheel. I think that even a lot of guys running 13s on their mini would go back to 10s. A lot of them probably went there for greater width to start with.

How are you going to overcome the missing sheetmetal on the front flares, presuming they were cut out to fit 13's in the first place ? Plus the bolt holes used to mount the rears are usually higher than most stock flares will cover, wheels look great btw.

I have had people asking what they look like on the car and how they fit. Here are a couple of pics. They look great. I just need to find some nice flares that I can replace the sport pac ones with that will also cover the tires. Now to that. The sport pac ones would just about cover them as far as width...but the sports pac are made for 13 inch wheels. The tire shown is on the rear. I am running a standrd drum but with the large spacer, yes I doo plan on running superfin drums. They would be tucked in another inch if the spacer wasn't there. Don't know if there would be any interference.

Thanks to Scott for trying these out - I would take a chance too. On my Mk II Prius (2005) - the factory LRR tires at proper inflation (35psi max) wear like they are at low inflation (both edges bald with minimal ctr wear) - this is a problem. Several people on the Prius Chat board run the factory tires at 45 to 60psi and the wear even's out. This is a huge nono but this has been documented for YEARS by many people with no blowouts or tire damage. I think the Goodyear Integrity's were designed for high pressure but ultimately "derated" on the tire casing documentation because the general consumer would not be comfortable filling the tire to the higher rating and that their home equipment would only go to 35psi anyways. F'n lawyers strike again.

Remember the tires that 850's came with originally, I think tire technology has improved a bit. Can't wait to hear. Anyone been running the Goodyear Eagles? No need to post, just email me from the profile, would like to hear your facts, not your opinons on tires & the nanny state (to be scientific you must understand)

These fit really well on 6s. No need for sevens as a matter of fact, I think 7s would not be as good a fit. As for the speed issue...even in my other car(s) I pretty much cruise at 70 on the freeway faster that that and around here you get a ticket. It is also the flow of traffic here...we do't live in the UK where you can travel at much greater speeds like on the M.  That leaves me well with in the limit. These are more for the twisties. How they will hold up under that?????? We'll have to see.

I wouldn't fit them.

Even an 850 can do that kind of sustained speed - why fit a tyre that could kill you if you keep up with traffic on the interstate ?

I would love to hear more about these and see them mounted on your car!

I remember a while back someone was using the Goodyear 205 / 50 / 10's and had recommended using 7" wide rims as he had problems with them being "squirrly" on 6" rims....The problem is finding 7" rims......

It says 67M...So an M rated tire is 81 mph

Got this off a site about tires ratings: Speed ratings identify the maximum speed a tire can sustain for 10 minutes without being in danger

The above is for information only about a "new" tire that someone looking for a wider tire for their Mini may think about using. As always, it is up to the person buying tires to determine the safety of their application. Since these tires have never been tested in this application extreme caution should be taken and serious consideration should be given to their use and manufacture's ratings.

I have rarely heard about a failure of one of these types of tires if it was in proper operating condition and operated within the manufacturer's limits.

DOT rating means that it could be fitted to a golf cart which is driven on public roads, something which is done at retirement communities, such as on these shown in The Villages FL:

Having a DOT rating doesn't mean anything on its own - it is the crucial speed rating that you really need.
